We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved sister and aunt, Sue Asher (Strachan), passed peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on January 24, 2023 at Waukesha Memorial hospital with family and friends by her side.
Sue was born in Quantico, Virginia on October 6, 1953 to Don and Jean Strachan. Being in a military family, she spent her formative years moving from Albany, Geogia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Bufort, South Carolina until her dad retired and accepted a job in Caro when Sue was in the 8th grade. She graduated from Caro High in 1971.
She married William Asher in 1975 and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1978. Though they split shortly after, Sue planted roots and began a career in production for AC Sparkplug and Delco Electronics. This is where she became enthralled with welding. She would spend her lunch breaks learning how to hand weld and tig weld from co-workers. In 1987, she took a factory service worker position at Stolper Industries. It wasn’t long before she became a certified TIG welder. According to her cohorts, she was a “bad ass welder” and respected for her meticulous and precise welding skills. In 2005, after Stolper closed its doors Sue began welding for Ace Precision and retired in 2017.
Sue enjoyed being outside and landscaping her yard with flowers and whirly-gigs. She loved to collect antiques and art; read, weave, write poetry, sew, and shop for her favorite fine leather and wool goods. She also enjoyed spending time with those close to her heart. We will all miss her witty banter and infectious laugh.
Sue is survived by her sister, Lee Ann Kulhanek; brother, Steve Strachan; niece, Angela Kulhanek; nephews, Ron Kulhanek, Steven Strachan II, Lucas Strachan and 6 great-nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her best friend and partner in crime, Nancy Whalen; special friends, Shirley and Jim Hallada, and Barbara and Charlie Hanson and all of her close comrades from work.
In keeping with Sue’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
