At about 9:34 a.m., first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Biebel Road (M-24) and North Colling Road in Almer Township for a two-vehicle crash.

According to a Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office report, the Akron man was driving east in a 2009 Suzuki SX4 when a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country minivan – driven north on North Colling Road by a 70-year-old Deford man – didn’t stop at a stop sign. The minivan broadsided the Suzuki on the Suzuki’s passenger side, and both vehicles ended up in a field northeast of the intersection.

The Akron man was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Deford man was treated on scene by Mobile Medical Response ambulance service and refused transportation to a hospital. Both drivers were their vehicle’s only occupants.

Both men wore seat belts and alcohol or drugs did not factor into the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

The Deford driver was issued a citation for failure to yield at a stop sign.
