Sheryl “Sherri” Lynn Schiefer, 66, of Vassar, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2022 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She was born in Bay City on January 31, 1956 the daughter of Dale and Elaine (Blissner) Newton. On October 20, 1984 she was united in marriage to Ronald Schiefer. Sherri retired from Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Service, where she worked for several years as a customer service representative. She enjoyed taking care of others and rock hounding, but the joy of her life was being a grandmother. Sherri was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington.
Sherri is survived by husband, Ronald; mother, Elaine Newton; two sons, Aaron (Michelle) Schiefer and T.J. (Amy) Schiefer; two grandchildren, Brooke Schiefer and Cameron Schiefer; sister, LouAnn (Tim) Haubenstricker; brother, Timothy (Rhonda) Newton; aunt, Barbara Newton; father and mother-in-law, Myron and Ruth Schiefer; brothers-in-law, Leon (Stacey) Schiefer and Terry (Deb) Schiefer; sister-in-law, Donna (Jim) Janson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her father, Dale Newton.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the Vassar Eagles Club – 651 State Rd. in Vassar. The Rev. James Bruner officiating. Private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet visitors on Thursday, June 23rd from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home – 149 N. Main St. in Vassar and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Vassar Food Pantry.
Sherri’s father’s service will start at 11:00 a.m. and at the conclusion there be a brief intermission before Sherri’s service begins.
