Carl George Strand of Tawas City, formerly of Caro, age 84, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022 at his home. Carl was born January 6, 1938 in Detroit, the son of the late George and Marcella (Kurpowic) Strand and was a 1957 graduate of Caro High School. In the fall of 1956, Carl met the love of his life, the former Toni Lung. The high school sweethearts were united in marriage in 1960. Their marriage was blessed with over sixty-one years, three wonderful children, and countless memories. Carl worked for the Eaton Foundry in Vassar for several years and went on to work at Saginaw Steering Gear. After thirty dedicated years, Carl retired in 1995 as a floor inspector. He was a dedicated parishioner of Holy Family Church in Tawas City, former member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Polish American Club, and the Knights of Columbus. Throughout life, Carl enjoyed building, farming, boating, taking care of his garden, watching the birds, and was very skilled in woodworking. He had his own band, the Polka Notes, and was a wonderful painter. Above all else, Carl was a loving and devoted family man. He adored his wife, children, and especially his grandsons. Carl will be missed dearly and lovingly remembered for years to come.
Carl leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Toni; daughter, Teresa (Ron) Suranye; son-in-law, Steve Betters; two grandsons, Anthony (Allison) Betters and Stephen Noah (Morgan) Betters; one sister, Anna Urban; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mark Davis, Myron (Diana) Miller, David (Vanessa) Miller, Kelly (Mike) Sidebottom, Virginia (Tom) Carter; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Strand; one daughter, Christine Betters; and two sisters, Marcella Green and Kathy Davis.
In keeping with Carl’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Caro. Rev. Christopher Coman will officiate with private inurnment at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church.
