Battling through a pair of tough games against Greater Thumb West conference foes, Cass City was able to capture the District 3 baseball championship Saturday.
The Red Hawks defeated Caro 13-10 in the semifinal and Bad Axe 8-6 in the championship game.
Cass City needed extra innings against Caro. The Red Hawks scored three runs in the top of the eighth to advance.
Taylor Marshall rapped three hits, drove in four and scored once for the Red Hawks. Alex Perry and Bryce Fernald had two RBIs apiece.
Bryce Martin, 15, has bragging rights in his family of golfers.
The son of Brad and Becky Martin, of Tuscola County’s Arbela Township, fired a hole-in-one May 13 on the 210-yard seventh hole at Willow Springs Golf & Country Club in Vassar Township.
“I just hit a good shot, and it was so far that I couldn’t see the hole,” said Martin, who will be a freshman this fall at Millington High School.
“I was walking up to the green thinking ‘I made a good shot, I have a good look at birdie.’ And then I was walking up and there was no ball on the green.
“I’m, like, ‘Well, I should have it on the green.’ So I just checked the hole.”
