DIANE ROMAIN

Diane Romain of Caro, age 77, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Diane was born May 31, 1942, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Wallace and Esther (Engelhardt) Ranke. She was a graduate of Caro High School and at seventeen years old met nineteen-year-old Dale Michael Romain. Dale turned out to be the love of her life, and they were united in marriage on April 30, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro. A devoted wife and mother, Diane spent many years as a homemaker while her children were young. Later in life, she enjoyed volunteering at the Food Pantry in Caro, working elections each year, and working as both a para-professional and cook for Caro Community Schools. Dale and Diane remained inseparable throughout their years of marriage and found great joy in traveling to visit family while seeing the country. Sunday mornings were spent at church with Polka music sure to follow. Life for Diane revolved around family and she’ll be remembered as everyone’s biggest cheerleader. She loved people and wanted to be part of any celebration that brought people together. Her unconditional love and loyalty will be missed by all who have been blessed by her bright spirit.

Left to cherish Diane’s memory are her loving husband of 60 years, Dale Romain of Caro; five children and their spouses, Patricia and James Denney of Grand Ledge, Timothy and LuEllen Romain of Caro, Christina and William Ammerman of Cary, North Carolina, Tammy Romain of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Traci and Craig Tollenaar of New Berlin, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren: Jason Marr, Alex (Jamie Kamps Duac) Marr, Eric Romain, Kristina (Dirk) Hartman, Kate Ammerman, Cole Ammerman, Natalie Ammerman, Sam (Heidi Wenzlick) Romain, Fiona Romain, Aubrey Romain, Emma Romain, Hadley Romain, Isobel Tollenaar, and Stella Tollenaar; five great-grandchildren: Aurelia and Juno Romain, Hunter, Logan, and Nathan Hartman; three siblings and their spouses: Jackie and Bob Bishop, Henry and April Ranke, Jill Mitchell; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
