Rev. Phillip A. Parkin

Rev. Phillip A. Parkin of Caro, a devoted husband and loving father, entered Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the age of 53. Phil was born March 25, 1965 in Binghamton, New York, the son of Rev. Ralph Parkin and the late Joyce (Merrill) Parkin. He spent his early years with his family as a missionary in the People’s Republic of the Congo in Africa. He returned to the United States as a teenager and graduated from S.R.U. High School in East Smithfield, Pennsylvania. Phil would later graduate with a Bachelor of Theology degree and moved shortly after to the Flint area to join the Gospelmen Quartet with only $100 in his pocket and faith. God provided a home, loving friends, and the chance to meet his soulmate. He was united in marriage with the former Cynthia Teague on February 13, 1988. Phil was the pastor of the Wahjamega Country Church for the past ten years and was recently appointed as the Director of Transportation and Grounds at the Tuscola Intermediate School District. He was also a singer with the Calvarymen Quartet for 31 years and died doing what he loved, singing with his friends on a cruise ship and sharing the love of God with all the passengers aboard. Phil was also a chaplain for the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department and the Thumb Jeeps Club. He traveled for years with the Praise Gang Puppeteers and drove bus for Bay Shore Camp in Sebewaing. He will be remembered as a hopeless romantic that cared deeply for his wife and children. He enjoyed the snow, taking trips with his family, singing, and always centered his life around his love of Jesus.
Phil is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cynthia Parkin of Caro; four daughters and their spouses: Alicia and Josh Miller of Grand Blanc, Loretta Hedger of Pontiac, Joyanna Parkin of Caro, Jesika and Jeff Bowen of Burton; four grandchildren: Kylie, Jeffery, Harley, and Ella; his father, Rev. Ralph Parkin and his wife, Eva, of Owosso; one brother, Edward Parkin of Elsie; and special friends, Mindy, Brooke, Courtney, Stephen, Jeff and the Calvarymen Quartet.
In keeping with Phil’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Colwood Church in Caro with Rev. Barry Maust and Jeff Glasco officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Parkin Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Cynthia Parkin, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723. The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro. Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
