Four fire departments responded to a fire in northern Lapeer County’s village of Clifford midday Wednesday.
The fire was at 9547 Washington St. – the home of Jim Rye, a firefighter with the Burlington Township Fired Department.
Rye told The Advertiser that neither he nor his wife, Camron Rye, were home at the time of the fire that was reported at 11:40 a.m.
Burlington Township Fire Chief Mark Schank said the cause of the blaze is under investigation and that no one was injured in the fire.
Jim Rye, who said he was at work at Marine Industries in Marlette when paged to the fire, wasn’t involved in fighting the fire, but did arrive on scene with his fellow Burlington Township firefighters.
“I had a pretty a pretty good idea (it was my house),” Rye told The Advertiser. “They didn’t send us to an actual address — just a location.”
The home was insured, and Jim Rye said, “It could be a lot worse,” adding that he’s glad his wife wasn’t home at the time of the fire.
Rye said he and his wife plan to say with in-laws.
Firefighters from Marlette, Kingston, and North Branch Township assisted Burlington Township firefighters at the scene.
