Ruth Hancock of Millington, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away early Tuesday morning February 7, 2017 at her Murphy Lake residence. Ruth was 93.
Ruth was born in Royal Oak, August 7,1923. She was the daughter of the late Viola (Schroeder) and Albert Rockentine. She graduated from Royal Oak High School. When she graduated, she was hired by Michigan Bell and as she was working the whole switchboard lit up (WWII) had started with the bombing of Pearl Harbor! She and her husband, Floyd, were married August 5, 1945 in San Francisco toward the end of the war. Floyd preceded her in death in March of 2012; also preceding her in death where her beloved son, Greg Hancock, three grandchildren: Gregy Hancock, Amy Hancock, and Cody Carlisle. Ruth was an active member of the Millington community all her life. She was a den mother, Woman’s Club president, lifelong member of the Methodist Church and also worked for many years as an aid and cashier for Millington Community Schools. Ruth and Floyd were great travelers and also had a cabin “up north” in Rose City. Ruth was known for her cooking; her warm smile, and her great love of children.
Surviving are her children: Kristine and Raleigh Simpson, Floyd and Mary Hancock Jr., Charles Hancock, Kari Carlisle, Becky Hancock; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Ruth also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Shirley Rockentine; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral service for Ruth were held at the Millington United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 11, 2017. The burial followed at the Millington Twp. Cemetery in Millington.
