AKRON — Water woes continue in Akron.
On Oct. 24 the DEQ declared the Akron Village water system was cleared to be used again after a week of having to boil the water first.
“As soon as the system was turned on, there was a line break,” said Clerk Shari Hadaway, empasizing that it was fixed and the water is all right to use again.
The initial problem that caused the shutdown was a faulty hatch.
The tower was drained, inspected, flushed and chlorinated. Even though the problem was corrected, updates to the system are being considered.
“The system was put in about 1956, and the mains have been having breaks,” said Hadaway.
The council approved having Hadaway write a pre-application grant for a new water tower, mains and water meters.
