Concerned about U.N. involvement

October 28, 2009 - 10:51 a.m. EST

I believe people need to be aware that the Obama administration has co-sponsored with the U.N. on a resolution to criminalize “any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence.” Since President Obama is so intent on going global, they may sign away all our rights at the global warming convention.

I am especially concerned over the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. The treaty would give final say on how parents raise their children to the U.N. This does not sound good to me.

Representative Pete Hoekstra from Holland, MI is attempting to pass an amendment to the Constitution that would block the UNCRC treaty and protect future generations of children from U.N. control.

You can get more information about this amendment at Parentalrights.org. Write to our congressmen and senators and ask them to help pass this amendment. Maybe if enough people write, call or e-mail they will listen. Take time to look into this and make up your own mind.

Thank you,

Mary Thayer

The UNICEF Convention on the Rights of the Child is being misrepresented by Ms. Thayer. This convention began in 1989 and has been ratified by virtually every country except the United States. The major opponent here is the Homeschooler crowd because of fears of being monitored. Some have interpreted the language of the UNCRC to require homeschoolers to evaluated for educational compliance. Why do they fear? 48 of 50 states already require compliance to an educational plan and would not be affected.

Why is Ms. Thayer not stating her objections? Why is Ms. Thayer implying this is an Obama initiative when its impossible for him to co-sponsor a 1989 convention? Why does she support “any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence" towards children. Is that really a parental right?

I am confused as to what rights could potentially be signed away at the Copenhagen conference. The conference in Copenhagen will address the need for global cooperation to combat climate change, where that would infringe upon the rights of US citizens is not apparent to me. Copenhagen is a continuation, or perhaps more appropriately, the next step in a process begun in Kyoto in 1997 with the Kyoto protocol. On a side note, although the US signed the protocol, we were the only industrialized country not to ratify it.

With regards to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, your concern leads me to believe that you have not actually read the text. I just did, and I challenge anyone to find anything that is the least bit controversial. It can be found here: http://www2.ohchr.org/english/law/crc.ht...

Don't worry its not that long, maybe a 20 minute read.

If you think for even a second that either party, Republican or Democrat could somehow do away or somehow marginalize the US Constitution they would.

It is the ONLY thing that keeps us , "WE THE PEOPLE " in charge of our government. The Constitution is all we have seperating us from the rest of the world.
I say don't trust anything at all put forth by the UN

only someone in Patrickd world advocate changing the constitution (as the letter writer endorces)to somehow protect the constitution from being changed.
then..with drool dripping down his chin..he imagines a constitution to separate us from the rest of the world. The constitution was designed to allow participation in world concerns, not fence us in our own little commune. It's all one world, Patrickd and Mary, the little dotted lines on your globe are not real and oceans and fences can't isolate you anymore. Time to learn an old song.
"Oh sha sha - we got to live together
I am no better and neither are you
We are the same whatever we do
You love me you hate me you know me and then
You can't figure out the bag l'm in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah"

Your understanding on these matters is nothing short of scary! The United Nations is not a boogeyman lurking in the dark waiting to steal your children and country. International Treaties are merely efforts to better understand and do business with our global neighbors. They cannot be enforced. They require mutual respect and some level of trust to have real significance. We are part of the global community. In fact one of the most powerful in that community.

Is the United Nations a perfect solution to attain global unity, or a means to global domination? Hell no. But then global unity, or global domination are visions for dreamers and paranoids.

Show me where I advocated the changing of the constitution.. Personally I think it works as is. The problem is the fact that the activist judges in the Fed Courts twist the interpretations to suit their whims.

The purpose of the constitution is to limit the powers of the Fed Govt. Not give it power of any sort. It lays out limitations. Read it for yourself.
Where in the constitution is it stated that it's purpose is to allow participation in world affairs?

You and koper are living in a fantasy world. Contrary to your view it is not "One World" ..

Go to China and try to speak out against the government, then write me from your cell and tell me how the fried rice tastes. Better yet. Go and ask the people there if they would like to have their country adopt our constitution.

Like I have stated many times in the past. I swore a solem oath on 6 different occasions to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies. Foreign and Domestic. If you want to change it there is a way, but the framers wisely decided that it should be difficult to keep people such as yourself from destroying our Republic.

So why sign on to them in the first place? If they cannot be enforced they are meaningless in the real world.

    Vito,
You must have missed that talking head Gibbs on CNN stating that there are good and bad Taliban and that the Obama administration has been considering an aliance with the good Taliban.. He wants to start paying them to be on our side... Similar to the fiasco Bush did by paying insergants to come over to our side. yea, that really worked. It sort of worked as long as you paid them, but not really. Since there was no idieological conversion from them they were working both ends and setting us up for lots of ambushes.
Sounds like they really got a handle on things over there. NOT

    Another thing.
Someone tell me one war/conflict the UN has been involved in that has had an outcome favorable to the United States of America.
They always seem to want to stop some travesty happening somewhere in the world yet ALWAYS expect the United States to do all the bleeding. If we say no then they demagog us as being selfish pigs but they never step up and do anything on their own. It always seems to have to have US fighting men/women doing most of the dieing. I say the hell with them.

    Patrickd,

Does the term "UN Peacekeepers" draw out any form of coherent thought from your pickled brain?

The UN isn't there to invade, you nitwit. They are there to keep the peace, to educate, to help assure that member nations resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner, and to assist in the betterment of societies across the globe - in short, to set a good example.

The UN is needed on a global scale. It's really too bad that you are so blinded by your own anger and belligerence that you can't see that.

Like I said. Tell me what conflict the UN ever solved.
Keeping the peace? Where? I guess you could give the Balkans a d+ grade, but only because we the United States stepped up to the plate and bombed the fight out of them. They still hate each other there and still continue to kill each other. just on a smaller scale. Then after we captured Milosevich the UN never followed through on him. He ended up dieing in Prison waiting on the hague to finish his trial which dragged on for years.

If not for American blood the UN would be nothing but a u and an n. .. They pass resolution after resolution and when some two bit dictator thumbs his nose at them they do nothing of substance. They just pass a new resolution never to be enforced. I say it is time for the US to dump the UN.

At the very least we should stop paying dues to the organization. Our blood is dues enough. Compared to the rest of the world we bleed gallons to their droplets.
If the UN was a fair and balanced organization all member countries would send the same percentage of troops based upon each member countries populations. My back is getting tired from carrying the rest of the world.

    Patrickd,

I am so glad the people governing this country have more sense and diplomacy than you. As the rest of the world moves forward, you continue to present yourself as a speedbump. To each his own, I guess.

As for the back problem, I would suggest a massage. There are plenty of nice salons in the area that offer this service. You should try one.

Well Joe you just go ahead and keep supporting the UN. I personally see them as a sponge. Sucking up our money with nothing to show for it. To me the UN is just another tax I have to pay that I get nothing in return for.
