DENMARK TOWNSHIP — A collision between a school bus and a mini-van happened late Tuesday afternoon near Richville, injuring the driver of the van.

The crash took place as Tuscola Intermediate School District students were being dropped off after school. The bus was traveling east on M-46, from M-15, when a van driving west crossed the center line and struck the bus. The driver of the bus observed the vehicle was crossing the center line and moved to the south shoulder of M-46 and began slowing down when the van stuck the bus, according to a press release from the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office.

The bus came to a complete stop and the van continued west, crossing back over the center line and coming to rest on the south shoulder of M-46.

According to Gene Pierce, assistant superintendent of the ISD, the students on the bus were not injured and were released to their parents. The driver of the bus and a bus-aide were not injured.

The 32-year-old female driver of the mini-van sustained injuries and was transported by Mobile Medical Response to Covenant Hospital of Saginaw for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation. The Tuscola County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Fabbro's Towing, Reinert and Bender Towing and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division.

Great work by Tom Shelito the bus driver and the great transportation department staff at the TISD in handling a very frightening and difficult situation with professionalism and care for the students. I'm so glad they all came through safely and hope the same for the other driver. Hats off!!!!
